In 2009, Tony Goldman, a renowned community revitalizer and placemaker, came up with the idea of The Wynwood Walls. The purpose being to transform the old, derelict warehouses in the Wynwood District to something beautiful and to develop the walking traffic in the area. With his dedication squarely focused on graffiti and street art, the Wynwood Walls has become the ultimate statement in art appreciation. In 2010, Goldman Properties added 10 more artists and opened the Wynwood Doors, an acknowledgement to the traditional galleries and also expanded the mural program to other areas in the district.

Over 80,000 square feet of the Wynwood Walls has been covered in some of the most innovative and appealing graffiti and street art that Miami and the rest of the world has seen. With over 50 artists, representing 16 countries, supplying their own unique and attractive designs, the walls have been covered by media giants like New York Times, BBC News, Vanity Fair and Forbes. There was even a docu-series, titled ìHere Comes the Neighborhood, that not only featured the creation and evolution of the Wynwood neighborhood, but also covered the walls.

The continuous goal of the people involved with the walls is to not only introduce artists who have never exhibited in the US, but to also bring world class art to this emerging community.
